Is time travel possible?
Yes it is.
"The short answer is that time travel into the future is not only possible, it's been done, and we've known about it for over a century," says theoretical physicist Paul Davies. "The reason that the public doesn’t seem to know about it is because the amount of time travel involved is so pitifully small that it doesn't make for a 'Doctor Who' style adventure."
I deliberately picked this quote because it it quite sensational; it confirms that time travel is possible, and that in itself would get anybody paying attention. It is slightly misleading though, because to time travel in this way you would need to travel at close to the speed of light. Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity shows that time passes more slowly at close to the speed of light so, theoretically, if you could spend time at that speed then when you slowed to "normal time" you would have time travelled, but not in the way we typically mean. Most people think of time travel as the ability to move to a specific point and then do something at that point in time. This is the type of time travel that seems like it will only ever be a part of science-fiction.
