Can you jump?
“Okay Tom, you get to choose. What is your favourite period of history?”
Thomas looked a bit bewildered at the bizarre twist the conversation was taking but answered without really having to think about it.
“The dinosaurs,” he said.
The Professor let out a huge groan and Rebecca beamed with delight at the answer.
“Dinosaurs? Oh very good Tom, excellent choice. Right, is everybody ready?”
She stared ahead for a second as if trying to see something in the distance and then stepped forward, pulling the children with her.
The three of them disappeared.
Thomas and Emily Fletcher are quite normal children; normal in that their uncle mysteriously disappeared and now a medieval knight is trying to kill them. The only way to find out why somebody wants them dead would be to go back in time and ask their uncle, and the only people that can help are the teachers at the Tempus Viator School of Excellence.
So it's very lucky that their new friends are time travellers...

How did Timekeepers come about?
I left the UK a number of years ago and now live in Spain with my wife, three dogs and nine cats. We go back to England as often as we can but I still don't get to see my niece and nephew, the real Emily and Thomas, as much as I would like. I wanted to do something fun for them and because Thomas is a huge Doctor Who fan I started to write them a short story about time travel which I was going to give them for Christmas. The short story became a long story, then a book, and eventually became the first of three books. I am in the middle of writing the second book but I already know how it, and the third book, finish.
What is real?
A lot of people ask me this question but I don't know how to answer it. Thomas and Emily are definitely real, Beethoven is real, and so are the horrible smells he makes when he has eaten lamb bones. Certain characters such as Erik Bloodaxe, Talbot Edwards and Colonel Blood all existed and at the times that I have mentioned. Thomas´s Extreme watch is real, I own a Suzuki quad bike and my wife Rebecca often puts a red stripe in her hair. There are many things in the three books that are real, many things that aren't, and a lot of gray area in between; you can decide what to believe. The internet is a fantastic way to look things up and you should easily find the same information that I did when I was researching the book.
If you can't find out about something then it is either made up or covered up.
